History

Film executive David Hoberman founded Mandeville Films in January 1995 as he exited Walt Disney Studios with a five-year, multi-picture production deal.{{cite news|last1=Welkos|first1=Robert W.|last2=Bate|first2=James|title=Disney Live Action Film Chief Quits : Studios: Hoberman's departure is a further dismantling of the former Katzenberg team|url=https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1995-01-11-fi-18819-story.html|access-date=March 31, 2017|work=Los Angeles Times|date=January 11, 1995}}

In 1999, Todd Lieberman became studio partner and as president.{{Cite web |last=Lyons |first=Charles |date=1999-07-20 |title=Lieberman off Summit for Mandeville prod’n veep |url=https://variety.com/1999/biz/news/lieberman-off-summit-for-mandeville-prod-n-veep-1117743135/ |access-date=2024-08-27 |website=Variety |language=en-US}} A week later, Hoberman and its employees both left Mandeville to form a self-financing outfit, Hyde Park Entertainment, with Ashok Amritraj (former founder of Franchise Pictures), with split deals at the Walt Disney Studios and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) as the company initially went inactive.{{Cite web |last=Carver |first=Benedict |date=1999-07-26 |title=Amritraj, Hoberman set up shop |url=https://variety.com/1999/film/news/amritraj-hoberman-set-up-shop-1117744153/ |access-date=2024-08-27 |website=Variety |language=en-US}}{{Cite web |last=Carver |first=Benedict |date=1999-08-05 |title=Hyde Park splits pix with Disney, MGM |url=https://variety.com/1999/film/news/hyde-park-splits-pix-with-disney-mgm-1117750077/ |access-date=2024-08-27 |website=Variety |language=en-US}}

In 2002, Amritaj and Hoberman split their ties, and Hoberman himself reformed Mandeville Films with an exclusive five-year contract with Walt Disney Studios.{{Cite web|title=Hyde Park duo split|url=https://variety.com/2002/film/news/hyde-park-duo-split-1117870598/|first1=Dana|last1=Harris|last2=Dunkley|first2=Cathy|date=2002-08-01|website=Variety|language=en|access-date=2020-05-03}} Hoberman brought along fellow producer Todd Lieberman as a partner, who worked with Hoberman when he was senior vice president for international finance at Hyde Park Entertainment.

When Mandeville Films returned to the studios, it was scheduled to produce two films each for Touchstone and MGM: Walking Tall, Raising Helen, The Last Shot, and Beauty Shop. The studio itself went back to Disney in 2006 to co-produce Eight Below and The Shaggy Dog back-to-back.{{Citation needed|date=September 2020}}

Mandeville Films has an ongoing partnership with ABC, they renewed their contracts in July 2015, for two more years.{{Cite web|url=https://deadline.com/2015/07/mandeville-and-abc-extend-current-deal-two-years-1201482384/|title=ABC Extends Deal With Mandeville Films|first1=Ross A.|last1=Lincoln|date=July 20, 2015}}

In May 2018, Mandeville Films ended its partnership with Disney to sign with Universal Pictures for a "first-look production agreement".{{cite web|url=https://lrmonline.com/news/producers-of-beauty-and-the-beast-leave-disney-for-universal-deal/|title=Producers of Beauty and The Beast Leave Disney For Universal Deal|website=Latino Review Media|last=Esteves|first=Anthony|date=May 4, 2018|access-date=May 4, 2018}} In 2022, Todd Lieberman split off their ties from the production company.{{Cite web |last=White |first=Peter |date=2022-02-25 |title=Mandeville Films & Television’s David Hoberman & Todd Lieberman In Talks To Split & Pursue Separate Projects |url=https://deadline.com/2022/02/mandeville-films-television-split-david-hoberman-todd-lieberman-separate-1234960145/ |access-date=2024-08-27 |website=Deadline |language=en-US}} The group was later reformed as Hobie Films with a deal with Lionsgate on February 21, 2023.{{Cite web |last=Grobar |first=Matt |date=2023-02-21 |title=‘Shotgun Wedding’ Producer David Hoberman Launches Hobie Films Banner, Appoints Julie Meschko As VP |url=https://deadline.com/2023/02/david-hoberman-launches-hobie-films-appoints-julie-meschko-as-vp-1235266734/ |access-date=2024-09-04 |website=Deadline |language=en-US}}
