Mariah Amani Buckles (born October 27, 1997), known professionally as Mariah the Scientist, is an American singer and songwriter. She signed with Tory Lanez's One Umbrella and RCA Records to release her debut studio album Master (2019) and its follow up, Ry Ry World (2021). She parted ways with both labels in favor of Epic Records to release her third studio album, To Be Eaten Alive (2023), which marked her first entry on the Billboard 200.{{Cite magazine|url=https://www.billboard.com/pro/mariah-the-scientist-epic-records-signing-new-album/|title=Mariah The Scientist Signs With Epic Ahead of New Album 'To Be Eaten Alive'|first=Carl|last=Lamarre|magazine=Billboard |date=October 13, 2023}}

Early life

Buckles graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School a year early and attended college at St. John's University in New York City in hopes of becoming a pediatric anesthesiologist. However, during her sophomore year, Buckles dropped out to pursue a music career. She confided only in her mother and chose not to return for her belongings at her dorm, dedicating herself solely to music.{{Cite web |last=LADYGUNN |date=2023-08-29 |title=MARIAH THE SCIENTIST TALKS NEW ALBUM, ANIMALS, SENSITIVITY & DETACHMENT |url=https://www.ladygunn.com/music/mariah-the-scientist-interview-sol-blume-2023/ |access-date=2025-04-24 |website=LADYGUNN |language=en-US}}

Career

=2018–2019: Career beginnings and ''Master''=

Buckles first discovered her love for singing as a young girl in her elementary school choir. As she grew, she wrote poems and journal entries about her day or about her emotions at the moment. Later on, she began writing songs while attending St. John's University in New York on a biology scholarship. This passion caused her to drop out of school to concentrate on her music career. Despite this shift, her love for biology remained, influencing her stage name, Mariah the Scientist. {{Cite web |date=2023-10-30 |title=Mariah the Scientist Dares You to Eat Her Alive |url=https://officemagazine.net/mariah-scientist-dares-you-eat-her-alive |access-date=2025-04-24 |website=Office Magazine |language=en}}She released her debut EP, the six-track To Die For, on SoundCloud in January 2018.{{Cite web |url= https://www.allmusic.com/artist/mariah-the-scientist-mn0003890056/biography |title= Mariah the Scientist |website=AllMusic |last=Kellman |first=Andy |date=August 21, 2019 |access-date=January 28, 2020}}
