Filmplace.co
:{{spamlink|filmplace.co}}
Filmplace is a respected platform that connects content creators and brands worldwide. A quick search on Google News for "Filmplace" reveals numerous prominent collaborations, such as bringing the Korean reality show "Running Man" to Singapore in November 2023, garnering significant media coverage. Moreover, Filmplace has become the largest film location platform in Singapore and has expanded its reach to over 50 countries. Additionally, Filmplace serves as a hub where content creators can access valuable resources and industry connections. Blocking our domain prevents emerging or novice creators from accessing these resources which is critical for them, undermining Wikipedia's role as an information hub for valuable resources. Please consider unblocking the domain. Thank you.

:{{not done}} Wikipedia isn't a promotional platform. The site was spammed by at least [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist&oldid=967815718#filmplace.co three accounts]. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:52, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Hello Jamie,
Upon reviewing, I noticed that the post was uploaded on July 15, 2020. It's been nearly four years since then, and as you can observe, the company has experienced substantial growth and has gained a strong reputation. You may find it helpful to refer to this link for news sources: [http://crunchbase.com/organization/filmplace/signals_and_news Crunchbase - Filmplace]. With that in mind, I now view it not as a potential spam link, but rather as a valuable resource for content creators, aligning with Wikipedia's mission to empower and provide accurate information. Hence, I would like you to reconsider removing the domain from blacklist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.219.111.132 (talk) 15:12, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
: That's great. Nonetheless, Wikipedia is not a "hub for valuable resources." It is an encyclopedia, and it doesn't need your site. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:15, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
You're correct, Jamie. However, as an encyclopedia, it also holds the responsibility of providing true and accurate information to the public, especially about reputable organizations where people may seek information. Blocking the domain hinders this purpose. If I understand correctly, Wikipedia aims to offer a free, comprehensive, and reliable source of information on various topics, empowering users by providing access to diverse perspectives and encouraging global collaboration to enhance content. It serves to promote education, facilitate research, and foster understanding through an open platform for contribution and access. Therefore, blocking the domain prevents the public from accessing a now reliable source, which goes against the principles of the Freedom of Information Act. I acknowledge your concerns about past issues. However, considering it has been four years and recognizing Filmplace as a reputable organization now, I believe the domain blacklist should be reconsidered. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.219.111.132 (talk) 15:26, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
: We do not remove sites from the blacklist at the request of site owners, period. There's nothing more to discuss. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:28, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Semi-protection
Has anything good ever come out of IPs making requests? I suggest we indefinitely semi-protect this page and explicitly declare that requests coming from non-autoconfirmed users will not be entertained. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:50, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
: On one hand, there are lots of IP-only editors who are very productive and helpful around Wikipedia; on the other hand, I can't say that I've encountered many of them on this particular board, so I don't think we'd stand to lose much if we semi-protected it. Still, I'd want much more input from the community before taking such a measure. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:26, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

AnyplaceAmerica.com
This site has bee in existence since 2008 and has a editorial staff. It is based in the United States. It consists of a searchable database that pulls place names from USGS and Google maps. I can see it as beneficial to Wikipedia editors because it provides county name and location cooridnates for the features it identifies. I suspect it was blacklisted because it provides links to maps generated by Google and USGS, but am not sure. Rublamb (talk) 15:23, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
:It was added [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist/log/2021&diff=prev&oldid=998099351 here] by {{u|Oshwah}}, related to [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=998099040#Jacob_de_Joe_%E2%80%93_linkspam this] ANI discussion over scraper linkfarms. I can see that site is run by a SEO/marketing company which indeed specializes in targeted marketing via content farms; I'm not sure I see the editorial staff mentioned anywhere, very possible I missed it. Sam Kuru (talk) 18:42, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
::Sorry, I may have used the wrong term. I meant that this webite has identified staff who oversee it, as opposed to user-generated content or anonymous content creators. Since the conversation you linked to does not discuss or even mention this website, it would seem that it was prematurely blacklisted. In their privacy statement, Anyplace America says it only collects data that is shared "from you when you register on our site, subscribe to our newsletter, respond to a survey or fill out a form." None of these things are required to access the info provided by this website, nor have I been asked to sign up for anything when accessing it. Also, I cannot see how this serves as a link farm in the traditional sense. It primarily links to governmental maps from the US Geological Survey. There is a link to order a print version of the map, which is probably where the link farm issue comes into play. But the website is clear that this is a link to buy something. I do not believe a link to buy something automatically removes the value of this website's geographical database as a potential Wikipedia source since no one has to buy anything or even click the link to use the info provided. But I am not as code-savvy as others, so I might be missing something. Rublamb (talk) 20:04, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
:::The identified staff are two marketing guys who run many of these scraper sites and add commercial and affiliate links to public data. The linked conversation explicitly mentioned the site and shows where it had been linked, it also links to a RSN discussion on the site as well. I see nothing wrong with the original blacklisting. It appears you're working to add sources to a cool list of drafts in your sandbox; just link to the original reliable source they scraped from: Like [https://edits.nationalmap.gov/apps/gaz-domestic/public/search/names/1174929 Foley Draft]. There's no need to link or give credit to sites that are just acting as a middle man. Sam Kuru (talk) 22:19, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
:{{not done}} As Kuru notes, we're better off using the original sources as references as needed; Wikipedia doesn't need SEO-run aggregators. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:42, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

Very low level, but persistent. [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Matchmaker&diff=prev&oldid=1143933253 First added], to Matchmaker in March of last year. [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Siggy_Flicker&diff=prev&oldid=1220751641 Added again], to Siggy Flicker (a matchmaker according to the article) and, after a warning was ignored, [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Amber_Kelleher-Andrews&diff=prev&oldid=1220752084 once more] to Amber Kelleher-Andrews (another matchmaker). The link is not relevant to the latter two, and didn't belong on the Matchmaker disambiguation page. I can't think of any encyclopaedic use for the link, except if we ever had an article on the platform (unlikely, it's nn), but it could always be whitelisted for just the one entry if required. 81.187.192.168 (talk) 10:33, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
: Blacklisting is typically only used when the site has been spammed by multiple accounts; are there any besides Itsmartycomua that have spammed that link? OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:32, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
::Not that I've spotted. I came here mainly because of the patience this user has displayed – spamming, then waiting a whole 13 months to spam the same link again. Most unusual! I thought of blacklisting because who knows if it'll be spotted again in another year's time? To me that was just enough to refer it upwards for someone more experienced with the blacklist to adjudicate on. 81.187.192.168 (talk) 15:02, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
::: Since that user has done nothing but spam, I've blocked them as a spam-only account. If they decide they'd like to make product edits on Wikipedia, they can request an unblock. I see no need to blacklist for now. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:25, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
