A relative latecomer to racing, Crees joined the BTCC grid in 2019 after spending the previous season in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup,{{cite news|url=https://www.touringcartimes.com/2018/11/19/ginetta-champion-michael-crees-completes-team-hard-line/|title=Ginetta champion Michael Crees completes Team HARD line-up|publisher=Mediaempire Stockholm AB|date=19 November 2018|accessdate=19 November 2018|work=TouringCarTimes}} where he secured the Am Class title.
His debut season saw him compete for Team HARD at the wheel of a Volkswagen CC, and he secured a points scoring finish on his debut at Brands Hatch. His best result would come later in the season at Silverstone Circuit, where Crees broke into the top ten for the first time.
Having switched to BTC Racing for 2020 to drive a Honda Civic Type R,{{Cite web|date=2020-01-12|title=Crees joins BTC Racing for 2020 BTCC campaign|url=https://www.crash.net/btcc/news/935433/1/crees-joins-btc-racing-2020-btcc-campaign|access-date=2021-07-16|website=Crash|language=en}} Crees would match his personal best result of ninth and was a regular points scorer as he secured the Jack Sears Trophy.{{Cite web|date=2020-11-18|title=Michael Crees delighted by Jack Sears Trophy success|url=https://www.touringcartimes.com/2020/11/18/michael-crees-delighted-jack-sears-trophy-success/|access-date=2021-07-16|website=TouringCarTimes|language=en-US}}
Crees re-signed with BTC Racing for a second season but the two parted company little more than a week before the opening rounds.{{Cite web|title=BTC Racing parts ways with Crees on eve of 2021 BTCC season|url=https://www.autosport.com/btcc/news/btc-racing-parts-ways-with-crees-on-eve-of-2021-btcc-season/6499055/|access-date=2021-07-16|website=www.autosport.com|date=30 April 2021 |language=en}}
Instead, he signed up with Parker Revs Motorsport to contest the Porsche Supercup after Josh Webster was forced to stand down from his drive for family reasons.{{Cite web|last=Bailes|first=Kathy|date=2021-05-12|title=Broadstairs racing star Michael Crees joins Parker Revs Motorsport for Porsche Supercup challenge|url=https://theisleofthanetnews.com/2021/05/12/broadstairs-racing-star-michael-crees-joins-parker-revs-motorsport-for-porsche-supercup-challenge/|access-date=2021-07-16|website=The Isle Of Thanet News|language=en-GB}}
