Until recently, many authors considered these bugs to belong within the family Anthocoridae.{{cn|date=May 2024}} A 2022 molecular phylogenetics study groups them with Joppeicidae in the proposed clade Microphysoidea.{{cite journal |doi=10.1111/cla.12501 |title=Diversification of the phytophagous lineages of true bugs (Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera) shortly after that of the flowering plants |date=2022 |last1=Ye |first1=Fei |last2=Kment |first2=Petr |last3=Rédei |first3=Dávid |last4=Luo |first4=Jiu-Yang |last5=Wang |first5=Yan-Hui |last6=Kuechler |first6=Stefan M. |last7=Zhang |first7=Wei-Wei |last8=Chen |first8=Ping-Ping |last9=Wu |first9=Hao-Yang |last10=Wu |first10=Yan-Zhuo |last11=Sun |first11=Xiao-Ya |last12=Ding |first12=Lu |last13=Wang |first13=Yue-Ran |last14=Xie |first14=Qiang |journal=Cladistics |volume=38 |issue=4 |pages=403–428 |pmid=35349192 }} A 2023 study recovers them instead as relatively basal Cimiciformes.{{cite journal |doi=10.3390/insects14030267|doi-access=free |title=Molecular Phylogeny of Cimicoidea (Heteroptera: Cimicomorpha) Revisited: Increased Taxon Sampling Reveals Evolution of Traumatic Insemination and Paragenitalia |date=2023 |last1=Jung |first1=Sunghoon |last2=Kim |first2=Junggon |last3=Balvín |first3=Ondřej |last4=Yamada |first4=Kazutaka |journal=Insects |volume=14 |issue=3 |page=267 |pmid=36975952 |pmc=10051671 }}
