The Monument to Brotherhood in Arms ({{langx|pl|Pomnik Braterstwa Broni}}) was erected in {{Interlanguage link multi|Vilnius Square, Warsaw|pl|3=Plac Wileński w Warszawie|lt=Vilnius Square}} in Warsaw's Praga district, in 1945, to commemorate the joint fight of Polish and Soviet soldiers against Nazi Germany.{{cite web|url=https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/02/27/world/europe/ap-eu-poland-soviet-monument.html?_r=0|title=Soviet Army Monument Banned From Returning to Warsaw Square|website=The New York Times|date=27 February 2015|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150420005749/http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/02/27/world/europe/ap-eu-poland-soviet-monument.html?_r=0|archivedate=20 April 2015|df=dmy-all}} In 2011, it was temporarily taken down during the construction of an underground railway station and sent to restorers. However, when it was about to be reinstalled, a minority of Praga's residents objected, as they perceived the monument as a remnant of the Communist era. In surveys carried out by the city council and Gazeta Wyborcza in 2012 and 2013 respectively, the majority of Warsaw's residents said they would like the monument to be returned to its original place or placed somewhere nearby.{{cite web|author=Iwona Szpala |url=http://warszawa.wyborcza.pl/warszawa/1,34889,15029940,Zostawic_czy_usunac_pomnik_Spiacych__Wyniki_nowego.html |title=Zostawić czy usunąć pomnik Śpiących?
