Mount Delano is a {{convert|10159|ft|m|abbr=off|adj=on}} mountain summit in Park County, Montana, United States.
Description
Mount Delano is located {{convert|9|mi|km|spell=in}} south-southeast of Livingston in the northern Absaroka Range, which is a subrange of the Rocky Mountains. It is situated in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness on land managed by Gallatin National Forest, and can be seen from Highway 89 when travelling between Livingston and Yellowstone National Park. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into the north and south forks of Deep Creek which is a tributary of the Yellowstone River. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises {{convert|3000.|ft|m|abbr=off|sp=us}} above the South Fork in {{convert|0.9|mi|km}}; {{convert|4000.|ft|m|abbr=off|sp=us}} above the North Fork in {{convert|2|mi|km|spell=in}}; and {{convert|5500.|ft|m|abbr=off|sp=us}} above the Yellowstone in {{convert|5|mi|km|spell=in}}. The mountain's toponym, which honors Columbus Delano (1809–1896), has been officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names, and has been printed in publications since at least 1873.[https://books.google.com/books?id=8Q1aAAAAcAAJ&dq=mount+delano+montana&pg=PA35 Henry Gannett, Lists of Elevations in that Portion of the United States West of the Mississippi River], U.S. Government Printing Office, 1873, p. 35. Delano served as President Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of the Interior and he was instrumental in the establishment of America's first national park, Yellowstone.
