Kay made his full All Whites debut in a 2–4 loss to Australia on 5 June 1933{{cite web|url=http://www.ultimatenzsoccer.com/NZRepSoccer/id1559.htm|title=A-International Lineups|author=|publisher=The Ultimate New Zealand Soccer Website|date=|accessdate=3 Oct 2009}} and ended his international playing career with four A-international caps and one goal to his credit,{{cite web|url=http://www.ultimatenzsoccer.com/NZRepSoccer/id1842.htm|title=A-International Scorers - Overall|author=|publisher=The Ultimate New Zealand Soccer Website|date=|accessdate=24 Sep 2009}} his final cap an appearance in a 1–4 loss to Australia on 18 July 1936.
