In March 2017, following a referendum to amend the Constitution of July 1991,{{Cite web |title=Mauritania votes to abolish senate by referendum |url=https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/8/7/mauritania-votes-to-abolish-senate-by-referendum |access-date=2023-10-22 |website=www.aljazeera.com |language=en}} the Mauritanian National Assembly adopted a new national anthem to replace the previous one, which was considered almost impossible to sing.{{cite web|title=L'Assemblée Nationale adopte le projet de loi constitutionnelle portant révision de la constitution du 20 juillet 1991|url=http://fr.ami.mr/Depeche-39905.html|publisher=Agence Mauritanienne d'Information|access-date=24 November 2017}}

Lyrics

The anthem currently has six verses, with a chorus repeated after each verse. The fifth verse (in brackets) is sung in an extended version of the anthem. It was first sung on the 57th Independence Day of Mauritania, on 28 November 2017.{{cite web |title=New National Anthem of Mauritania sung in 57th independence celebration |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlzfnrPtaYQ |url-status=bot: unknown |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180426082431/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlzfnrPtaYQ&feature=share |archive-date=2018-04-26 |access-date=24 November 2017 |publisher=YouTube }}

The country of the honourable, generous fathers

And the fortress of the Book that cannot be violated.

O Mauritania, spring of harmony

And the pillar of tolerance, the breach of peace.

{{small|Chorus:}}

We will protect your honour and we are your servants

And cover your soil with the colour of hope.

And at your call, we will answer ‘yes’.

II

The constellations of your skies have not been veiled

and the sun of your forehead has not set.

The glorious Arabs have raised you up.

For Africa, the freshest source

{{small|Chorus}}

III

We suckled the milk of praise and pride

Of our nature, which bores a good harvest

and fertile pasture, even if it was barren.

We rose to Heaven, and we were pleased.

{{small|Chorus}}

IV

We have made your enemy drink a bitter downpour,

not allowing him to obtain shelter nor stability.

We resist him wherever he goes and wherever he comes,

chanting: "Surely, with hardship comes ease"{{Quran ref|chapter=94|verse=5}}

{{small|Chorus}}

(V, only sung on 57th independence day)

We followed the prophet along the path of the heavens

to the tree of glory above the sky

occupying the Pleiades as our stairway

drawing there our boundary.

{{small|Chorus}}

VI

We took you as a vow and carried you as a promise

and we happily give you up to the future generations

{{small|Final chorus:}}

We will protect your honour and we are your servants

And cover your soil with the colour of hope.

We will protect your honour and we are your servants

And at your call, we will answer ‘yes’!

= Short version =

On official occasions requiring brevity, a short version is sung, comprising verse one (which is repeated), the chorus (which is split before line three), verse two and verse six.{{Cite web |last=BellewarMedia - بلوارميديا |date=2017-11-28 |title=رفع العلم الوطني و عزف النشيد الوطني الجديدين لاول مرة بصفة رسمية - عيد الاستقلال الوطني 57 بكيهيدي |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqaA59dqH8w |url-status=bot: unknown |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220206125012/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqaA59dqH8w |archive-date=2022-02-06 |access-date=2022-02-06 |website=YouTube }}{{Cite web |last=BellewarMedia - بلوارميديا |date=2017-11-22 |title=وحدة عسكرية تعزف النشيد الوطني الموريتاني الجديد |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-10qYatPjsg |url-status=bot: unknown |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220206125009/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-10qYatPjsg |archive-date=2022-02-06 |access-date=2022-02-06 |website=YouTube }}{{Cite web |last=dmc |date=2018-12-03 |title=صاحبة السعادة - موسيقى النشيد الوطني لجمهورية موريتانيا بقيادة الموسيقار الكبير راجح داوود |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwvkzZF4dTQ |url-status=bot: unknown |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220206125010/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwvkzZF4dTQ |archive-date=2022-02-06 |access-date=2022-02-06 |website=YouTube }}{{Cite web|title=Mauritania|url=https://www.navyband.navy.mil/music/anthems/mauritania.mp3|access-date=2022-02-06|website=United States Navy Band}}
