The PR engine is a gasoline inline-four piston engine with a displacement of 2.5{{Nbsp}}L (2,488{{Nbsp}}cc) that was introduced in 2018 by Nissan.{{Cite web |last=Guardiola |first=El |date=8 June 2022 |title=Engine specifications for Nissan PR25DD, characteristics, oil, performance |url=https://mymotorlist.com/engines/nissan/pr25dd/ |access-date=17 October 2024 |website=mymotorlist.com |language=en-US}} The motor has an aluminum block and head, and has a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) four-valve design with variable valve timing and direct injection. The engine is heavily based on the QR engine but has 95% different parts.{{Cite web |date=26 April 2019 |title=Nissan to use mirror bore process on new 2.5L engine for Altima; highest volume application of technique |url=https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/04/20190426-nissan.html |access-date=17 October 2024 |website=Green Car Congress}}
The engine is used in compact and midsize applications by Nissan and Mitsubishi via the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance.

The 2.5{{Nbsp}}L (2488{{Nbsp}}cc) PR25DD has a bore and stroke of {{Convert|89 x 100|mm|in|abbr=unit}} with a compression ratio of 12.0:1.{{Cite web |date=28 March 2018 |title=2019 Nissan Altima: Specifications |url=https://usa.nissannews.com/en-US/releases/release-215892633e2d484998bf260cfe01349c-2019-nissan-altima-specifications |access-date=17 October 2024 |website=Official U.S. Newsroom |language=en-US}} Compared with its predecessor, the QR25DE, it has an increased compression ratio, iron mirror-finish bore coatings instead of cast-iron cylinder liners, and a resin intake port insert to insulate charge air from heat from the cylinder head. It also has electrically actuated variable valve timing, a variable displacement oil pump, integrated exhaust manifold, and cooled EGR. These features were added to increase fuel economy and lower emissions while increasing power output.{{Cite web |last=Capparella |first=Joseph |date=6 July 2018 |title=We Drove 2019 Nissan Altima Prototypes and All We Can Tell You About Are the All-New Four-Cylinder Engines |url=https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a22061288/we-drove-2019-nissan-altima-prototypes-and-all-we-can-tell-you-about-are-the-all-new-four-cylinder-engines-prototype-drive-review/ |access-date=17 October 2024 |website=Car and Driver}}{{Cite report |url=https://www.sae.org/publications/technical-papers/content/2019-01-1199/ |title=Development of New I4 2.5L Gasoline Direct Injection Engine |last=Yoshida |first=Naohiro |date=2 April 2019 |publisher=SAE Technical Paper |issue=2019-01-1199 |location=Warrendale, PA |language=English}}
