Nkx2-2as (Nkx2-2 antisense) is a long non-coding RNA. It is located in the cytoplasm of the cell. Nkx2-2as is involved in Neural development. Overexpression of Nkx2-2as results in increased levels of expression of the homeobox gene Nkx2-2 and enhances induction of the differentiation of oligodendrocytes.{{cite journal | vauthors = Tochitani S, Hayashizaki Y | title = Nkx2.2 antisense RNA overexpression enhanced oligodendrocytic differentiation | journal = Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications | volume = 372 | issue = 4 | pages = 691–6 | date = August 2008 | pmid = 18538132 | doi = 10.1016/j.bbrc.2008.05.127 }}{{cite book | vauthors = Szymański M, Barciszewski J | chapter = Noncoding RNAs in the Development, Function and Pathologies of the Central Nervous System | veditors = Erdmann VA, Reifenberger G, Barciszewski J | title = Therapeutic Ribonucleic Acids in Brain Tumors | url = https://archive.org/details/therapeuticribon00erdm | url-access = limited | date = 2009 | pages = [https://archive.org/details/therapeuticribon00erdm/page/n459 453]–470 | publisher = Springer | location = Berlin, Heidelberg | doi = 10.1007/978-3-642-00475-9_20 | isbn = 978-3-642-00474-2 }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Mercer TR, Qureshi IA, Gokhan S, Dinger ME, Li G, Mattick JS, Mehler MF | title = Long noncoding RNAs in neuronal-glial fate specification and oligodendrocyte lineage maturation | journal = BMC Neuroscience | volume = 11 | pages = 14 | date = February 2010 | pmid = 20137068 | pmc = 2829031 | doi = 10.1186/1471-2202-11-14 | doi-access = free }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Qureshi IA, Mattick JS, Mehler MF | title = Long non-coding RNAs in nervous system function and disease | journal = Brain Research | volume = 1338 | pages = 20–35 | date = June 2010 | pmid = 20380817 | pmc = 2883659 | doi = 10.1016/j.brainres.2010.03.110 }} Besides Nkx2-2, Nkx2-2as may also regulate the expression of other genes.
