History
It was established on 25 August 2020{{Cite web|url=http://www.df.cl/noticias/df-mas/la-hora-de-los-independientes/2020-10-16/190814.html |title=La hora de los independientes |accessdate=14 November 2020 |date=17 October 2020 |last=Gutiérrez |first=María José |work=Diario Financiero |language=Spanish}} by a group of civil society citizens, including Agustín Squella, Benito Baranda, Andrea Repetto, Rodrigo Jordán, Heinrich von Baer and Eduardo Engel, with the intention of supporting the options "Approve" and "Constitutional Convention" in the plebiscite of the same year. They expressed that "a new Constitution is needed to define the bases of an updated institutionality, with a modern chapter of duly guaranteed fundamental rights, a balanced and transparent national, regional and communal political regime, a recognition of the plurinational character of the country, a greater and effective decentralization, and a review of its constitutional justice".{{cite web |url=https://g5noticias.cl/2020/08/25/agustin-squella-heinrich-von-baer-benito-baranda-eduardo-engel-y-un-llamativo-listado-de-personas-conformaron-independientes-por-el-apruebo/ |title=Agustín Squella, Heinrich von Baer, Benito Baranda Eduardo Engel y un llamativo listado de personas conformaron "Independientes por el apruebo" |work=g5noticias.cl |date=25 August 2020 |accessdate=13 November 2020 |language=Spanish}}
After the referendum, the group began to make its list of candidates for the Constitutional Convention, led by Benito Baranda, and it also began to gather the necessary signatures to confirm its legality for the election.{{cite web |url=https://www.elmostrador.cl/noticias/2020/11/02/benito-baranda-encabeza-lista-de-candidatos-para-la-convencion-constitucional-de-independientes-no-neutrales/ |title=Benito Baranda encabeza lista de candidatos para la Convención Constitucional de Independientes No Neutrales |work=Pauta.cl |date=2 November 2020 |accessdate=13 November 2020 |language=Spanish }} Among its candidates there were more than 30 people from different regions of Chile, including the journalist Patricia Politzer and the constitutional lawyer Miriam Henríquez.{{cite web |url=https://www.cnnchile.com/pais/patricia-politzer-candidatura-convencion-constitucional_20201112/ |title=Patricia Politzer confirmó candidatura a la Convención Constitucional: "Podemos cambiar Chile" |work=CNN Chile |date=12 November 2020 |accessdate=12 November 2020 |language=Spanish }}{{Cite web |last=Mercier |first=Mario |title=De cara al proceso constituyente: ¿Quiénes son los abogados constitucionalistas más influyentes? |url=https://digital.elmercurio.com/2020/11/15/R/1C3SIRGF |date=15 November 2020 |accessdate=15 November 2020 |newspaper=El Mercurio |language=Spanish }}
To facilitate the participation of independent candidates in the elections for the Constitutional Convention, the movement has requested that legal changes be made to reduce the number of signatures required to sponsor independent candidates, facilitate said sponsorship by means of a digital signature and allow the formation of agreements between independents. Its efforts include participation in Senate committees where these legislative reforms are discussed.{{Cite web |url=https://www.senado.cl/appsenado/index.php?mo=comisiones&ac=sesiones_celebradas&idcomision=186&tipo=3&legi=0&ano=2020&desde=0&hasta=0&comi_nombre=de%20Constituci%C3%B3n,%20Legislaci%C3%B3n,%20Justicia%20y%20Reglamento&idsesion=15867&idpunto=nada&fecha=03/11/2020&inicio=10:30&termino=&lugar=&listado=2 |title=Sesión Comisión de Constitución
