History
= Formation =
Northern Mystics were formed in 2007. The new team was effectively a merger of the two former National Bank Cup teams, Northern Force and Auckland Diamonds. Mystics subsequently became founder members of the ANZ Championship.{{cite web|url=https://www.foxsports.com.au/news/mystics-join-forces/news-story/c9b2371c2ba6cfd39fd78e9cc13eff2b|title=Mystics join forces|publisher=www.foxsports.com.au|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210624202951/https://www.foxsports.com.au/news/mystics-join-forces/news-story/c9b2371c2ba6cfd39fd78e9cc13eff2b|archive-date=24 June 2021|date=6 April 2008|access-date=22 June 2021}}{{cite news|author=Lana Margaret McCarthy|url=https://mro.massey.ac.nz/bitstream/handle/10179/7569/McCarthyMSpExThesis.pdf?sequence=2&isAllowed=y|title=A Case Study of the Northern Mystics Netball Team (2008–2014)|work=Massey University|publisher=mro.massey.ac.nz|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220709150724/https://mro.massey.ac.nz/bitstream/handle/10179/7569/McCarthyMSpExThesis.pdf?sequence=2&isAllowed=y|archive-date=9 July 2022|access-date=22 June 2021}}{{cite news|url=https://www.northernmystics.co.nz/news/a-look-back-on-the-makings-of-the-mystics-for-heritage-round/|title=A look back on the makings of the Mystics for Heritage Round|publisher=www.northernmystics.co.nz|date=31 March 2023|access-date=8 June 2023}} Yvonne Willering became Mystics first head coach and Temepara George became Mystics first player.{{Cite web|url=https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/netball-willering-desperate-to-get-stuck-in/BXLE6UI4QUKREOKNCSKSBPLNPM/|title=Netball: Willering desperate to get stuck in|publisher=www.nzherald.co.nz|date=7 December 2007|access-date=30 July 2022}}{{cite news |url=http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10482225|title=George opening Mystics' gambit|publisher=www.nzherald.co.nz|date=14 December 2007|access-date=22 March 2010}}

In 2012, Mystics finished second on the table after the regular season. However, they subsequently lost the major semi-final to Melbourne Vixens and the preliminary final to Magic and finished in third overall. On 20 May 2012, during a Round 8 match against Vixens, Mystics introduced the Harrison Hoist. Anna Harrison made several vital blocks while being hoisted rugby union lineout-style by her defensive partners. Harrison was lifted first by Kayla Cullen and then twice in the final quarter by Jessica Moulds.
