History
Officer station opened on 4 August 1881, almost four years after the railway line was extended from Dandenong to Pakenham.{{cite web|url=http://www.vicsig.net/infrastructure/location/Officer|title=Officer|website=vicsig.net|access-date=27 January 2023|archive-date=10 December 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221210111620/https://vicsig.net/infrastructure/location/Officer|url-status=live}} Like the suburb itself, the station was named after Robert Officer, a local pastoralist.{{cite web|url=https://www.victorianplaces.com.au/officer|title=Officer|publisher=Victorian Places|accessdate=27 January 2023|archive-date=14 December 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221214115943/https://www.victorianplaces.com.au/officer|url-status=live}} Another theory is that the station and suburb were named after the Officer family, who were originally from Deniliquin, New South Wales.{{cite web|first=Jamie|last=First|url=https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/the-az-story-of-melbournes-suburbs/news-story/6f7611b7df20e55ad02f5e9615885e21|title=The A-Z story of Melbourne's suburbs|publisher=Herald Sun|date=7 January 2014|accessdate=27 January 2023|archive-date=26 December 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221226135637/https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/the-az-story-of-melbournes-suburbs/news-story/6f7611b7df20e55ad02f5e9615885e21|url-status=live}}
In 1955, the line between Officer and Pakenham was duplicated and, on 13 May 1956, duplication between Officer and Berwick was provided. In that year, a new station was also provided east of the original site.
In 1976, flashing light signals were provided at the former Station Street level crossing, which was located nearby in the up direction of the station.{{cite magazine|date=July 1976|title=Works|magazine=Newsrail|publisher=Australian Railway Historical Society|page=160}} A decade later, in 1986, boom barriers were provided.{{cite magazine|date=March 1987|title=Works|magazine=Newsrail|publisher=Australian Railway Historical Society|page=91}}{{cite magazine|date=January 1990|title=Level Crossing Protection|author=John Sinnatt|magazine=Somersault|publisher=Signalling Record Society Victoria|pages=9–17}}
On 8 May 1987, a collision involving a Flinders Street-bound Comeng train set and V/Line locomotive N457, operating an up Traralgon service, occurred in the down direction of the station.{{cite news|title=Two suspended after train smash|last=Burchall|first=Greg|date=8 May 1987|page=1|work=The Age}}{{cite news|title=45 hurt as passenger trains hit near station|last1=Ayres|first1=Bill|last2=Yates|first2=Michael|date=8 May 1987|page=1|work=The Herald}} 45 people were injured in the collision. In 1988, the former goods siding was taken out of service.{{cite magazine|date=June 1988|title=Works|magazine=Newsrail|publisher=Australian Railway Historical Society|page=186}} The main line points leading into the siding were spiked, and were removed at a later date.
Sometime during or after 1995, the present station shelters were provided, replacing timber station buildings.{{cite news|title=Tenders–Upgrade of Officer Station|last=Corporation|first=Public Transport|date=17 June 1995|page=85|work=The Age}}{{cite web|url=http://www.stationspast.net/victoria/gippsland-line/officer/|title=Officer|website=When there were stations|access-date=30 April 2023|archive-date=14 December 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221214115935/http://www.stationspast.net/victoria/gippsland-line/officer/|url-status=live}}
