Shchukina qualified for the Uzbek squad in the women's shot put at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by posting an Olympic B-standard throw of 17.26 metres from the Asian Cup League Meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. She unleashed a ball with her best throw of 14.44 metres on the third attempt of the prelims to obtain the last spot in a vast field of thirty-eight shot putters.{{cite web|title=IAAF Athens 2004: Women's Shot Put Qualification|url=http://www.iaaf.org/competitions/olympic-games/28th-olympic-games-3201/results/women/shot-put/qualification/summary|work=Athens 2004|publisher=IAAF|access-date=17 February 2015}} On August 20, 2004, two days after her shot put feat at the Ancient Olympia Stadium, Shchukina tested positive for the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol during the pre-competition screening process, and was formally expelled from the Games by the International Olympic Committee.
