Description

As a juvenile plant, P. microphylla has distinctive fiddle-shaped leaves and a divaricating growth pattern.{{cite book|title=A key to the divaricating shrubs of New Zealand|publisher=Department of Botany, Victoria University of Wellington|author= G. Marie Bulmer|date=1958}} It grows in areas of lowland forest where it will grow into a tree around {{Convert|12|m|abbr=off}} high.
