A pension ({{IPAc-en|UK|ˈ|p|ɒ̃|s|j|ɒ̃}}, {{IPAc-en|US|p|ɒ|n|ˈ|s|j|oʊ|n}};{{cite LPD|3}} {{IPA|fr|pɑ̃sjɔ̃|lang|LL-Q150 (fra)-WikiLucas00-pension.wav}}){{cite web|url=https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/pension#pension_Noun_200|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170202025537/https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/pension#pension_Noun_200|url-status=dead|archive-date=2 February 2017|title=pension2|work=Oxford Dictionaries|access-date=24 January 2017}} is a type of guest house or boarding house. This term is typically used in Continental European countries, in areas of North Africa and the Middle East that formerly had large European expatriate populations, and in some parts of South America, such as Brazil and Paraguay. Pensions can also be found in South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines.

In contrast to bed and breakfasts, more usual in Anglosphere nations, pensions typically offer not only breakfast, but also lunch, dinner, and sometimes even tea. Rather than paying for the room and each meal separately, guests select a plan that either comprises overnight accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner ("full pension"{{cite web|url=http://www.seetheglobe.com/modules/lexikon/entry.php?entryID=66|title=Full Pension|work=See The Globe – Travel Glossary|access-date=30 March 2012}} / "full board"{{cite web|url=http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-definition/Full%20board|title=full board|work=Collins Dictionary|access-date=26 January 2017}}), or the preceding minus lunch ("half board / demi-pension"{{cite web|url=http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-definition/Half%20board|title=half board/demi-pension|work=Collins|access-date=26 January 2017}} / "half pension"{{cite web|url=http://www.travel-industry-dictionary.com/half-pension.html|title=Define Half Pension|work=Travel Industry Dictionary|access-date=30 March 2012}}).

These small businesses may offer special rates for travellers staying longer than a week, may be located in historic buildings, can be family-run, and are generally cheaper than other lodgings, such as hotels, although they offer more limited services.
