The PlastiGlass Company (usually just called PlastiGlass) was an American boat builder based in California. The company was an early pioneer in the design and manufacture of fiberglass sailboats.{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/builder/plastiglass-co|title= PlastiGlass Co. 1950 - 1955 |access-date = 22 September 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220724003156/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/plastiglass-co|archive-date= 24 July 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/plastiglass|title= PlastiGlass Co.|access-date= 22 September 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220724003054/https://sailboat.guide/plastiglass|archive-date= 24 July 2022|url-status= live}}

The company was founded by boat designer Barney Lehman in 1950 and sold to WD Schock in 1955, becoming part of the nucleus of the WD Schock Corp.

History

Lehman started building his first design, the Lehman 10 cat rigged sailing dinghy, also called the Lehman Interclub, in 1948, before the founding of his company two years later. The Interclub was chosen as the one-design racer for a US-Mexico inter-club competitive regatta that was held in Acapulco in February, 1952, which included the sponsorship of the Mexican government.{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/lehman-interclub|title= Lehman Interclub sailboat |access-date= 22 September 2022|last= McArthur|first= Bruce|work= sailboatdata.com|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220922172921/https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/lehman-interclub|archive-date= 22 September 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/schock/lehman-interclub|title= Lehman Interclub|access-date= 22 September 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220724182526/https://sailboat.guide/schock/lehman-interclub|archive-date= 24 July 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://books.google.com/books?id=14LkaWouJW8C&pg=PA78|title= Westward Ho!|access-date= 22 September 2022|last= Robinson|first= Robbie|work= Motor Boating|date= March 1952}}

The slightly larger Lehman 12, also a cat-rigged dinghy, was later developed into the longer Lehman 14. After WD Schock purchased the company in 1955, that design was developed into the commercially successful Lido 14, with 6,100 boats built.{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/lido-14|title= Lido 14 sailboat |access-date= 22 September 2022|last= McArthur| first= Bruce |work= sailboatdata.com|year= 2022|archiveurl= https://archive.today/20200718210335/https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/lido-14|archivedate= 18 July 2020|url-status= live}}Sherwood, Richard M.: A Field Guide to Sailboats of North America, Second Edition, pages 40-41.
