Platystomatichthys sturio is the only species in the genus Platystomatichthys of the catfish (order Siluriformes) family Pimelodidae.{{ITIS |id=681791 |taxon=Platystomatichthys sturio |accessdate=May 23, 2007}} It is sometimes called the sturgeon catfish.{{cite book|title=Exotic Tropical Fishes|last=Axelrod|first=Herbert R.|authorlink=Herbert R.
