The Port Orford Formation is a geologic formation in Oregon. It preserves fossils.{{Citation needed|date=June 2024}} It consists of beds lying unconformably between the Empire Formation and overlying terrace deposits.{{Cite web |title=USGS Geologic Names Committee Archives: Port Orford Formation |url=https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Geolex/stratres/cards?q=PortOrfordFormation |website=National Geologic Map Database |publisher=United States Geologic Survey}} The formation is composed of a basal bed of buff (yellow-brown) sand, overlain by a layer of conglomerate, and layer of rusty sand grading upward into blue-gray argillaceous sand, which is then truncated by the sea, on top of which are the Elk River Beds. The name was proposed by Ewart M. Baldwin in 1945.{{Cite journal |last=Baldwin |first=Ewart M |date=1945 |title=Some Revisions Of The Late Cenozoic Stratigraphy Of The Southern Oregon Coast |url=https://archive.org/details/sim_journal-of-geology_1945-01_53_1/page/34/mode/2up |journal=Journal of Geology |volume=53 |issue=1 |pages=35 |via=Internet Archive}}
