Project:WikiProject Pittsburgh

This WikiProject aims to coordinate development of and improvements to articles related to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the surrounding metropolitan area in Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.

This works to elevate the Pittsburgh city article to Featured Article status, improve existing Pittsburgh-related articles, and create new articles for Pittsburgh-related subjects that don't have articles yet..

This is an open project that is owned and controlled by all its members. Its open tasks are a compilation generated by many of its members. All concerns with elements of this project should be discussed on the Talk page.

• March 2013 - We made Signpost!
• August 22, 2010 – First meetup held.
• August 29, 2006 – WikiProject Pittsburgh begins.
• April 18, 2008 – This project's first descendant, Wikiproject University of Pittsburgh, launched.

Please make sure that all Pittsburgh-related articles are:

1. tagged on their talk page with WikiProject Pittsburgh assessment templates (add {{WikiProject Pittsburgh|class=|importance=}} to the top of article's talk page
2. assessed (fill in in the class= and importance= parameters if they are missing; it is as easy as making them class=start and importance=mid for example; see here for detailed how-to)

• Keep Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as compact as possible, moving as much details into sub-articles as is reasonable.
• Keep all Pittsburgh-related articles properly categorized.
• Patrol changes to Pittsburgh-related articles.
• Add {{WikiProject Pittsburgh|class=|importance=}} to the talk pages of all Pittsburgh-related articles.
• Add the {{Pittsburgh-stub}} template to all existing Pittsburgh-related stub articles (or remove it, and update talk page status, if the article is beyond stub)
• Add all Pittsburgh-related articles that get frequent changes or are susceptible to vandalism to the Project Watchlist.
• Target Pittsburgh-related articles to take to Good or Featured status.
• Add the missing information to articles in the maintenance categories.

Editors are encouraged to 'patrol' recent changes to those articles related to Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.

• Identify and list all Pittsburgh-related infoboxes and navigational templates on a subpage, and consider the development of new ones.
• Add a quality assessment scale on a subpage, listing all pages that fit into various grade levels.

• Develop Wikipedia:WikiProject_Pittsburgh/Newsletter

A continuous goal of this project is to improve sub-articles referenced in the Pittsburgh city article as well as any article related to the subject of Pittsburgh. This section aims to list the articles with the greatest current need.

• Pittsburgh attractions — categorize under :Category:Visitor attractions in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
• Golf in Pittsburgh, or alternatively, Golf in Western Pennsylvania. It could cover history, famous courses and events, and players from the area.

I need a photo of a "sankey brick" for the new Sankey brick article. Can someone on the Southside look around for an old brick stamped "SANKEY"? I no longer live in Pennsylvania.

There are five lists of Pittsburgh area historic landmarks and sites: National Register of Historic Places listings in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, National Register of Historic Places listings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations, List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks, and List of Pennsylvania state historical markers in Allegheny County.

Out of these, the National Register of Historic Places listings in Pittsburgh and City Desigations are fully illustrated. Our goal is to fully illustrate these lists. Here are the images that are needed (and the designation for which list they are need for).
