The subfamily Pseudophyllinae contains numerous species in the family Tettigoniidae, the katydids or bush crickets. Sometimes called "true katydids",{{Citation needed|date=January 2018}} together with the crickets of suborder Ensifera, they form part of the insect order Orthoptera which also contains grasshoppers.

Members of the group are noted for their remarkable camouflage. Many species closely resemble fresh or dried leaves, including veins, various blotches and even bite marks.{{cite book |last1=Grimaldi |first1=David |last2=Engel |first2=Michael S. |year=2005 |chapter=Orthoptera: the crickets, katydids, grasshoppers, wetas, and kin |title=Evolution of the Insects |url=https://archive.org/details/evolutioninsects00grim_110 |url-access=limited |location=Cambridge |publisher=Cambridge University Press |isbn=0521821495 |pages=[https://archive.org/details/evolutioninsects00grim_110/page/n216 202]–211}}

Systematics

The Pseudophyllinae may be subdivided into the following tribes (the first 17 of which are sometimes grouped into the super-tribes: Pleminiiti and Pseudophylliti) and genera.[http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=36 Orthoptera Species File] (retrieved 25 December 2017) Some notable species are also listed here:
