Etymology

The name Regavim is taken from the Hebrew word 'regev', meaning a very small piece of land or patch of soil, a word used in a Zionist poem about reclaiming the Land of Israel, "dunam by dunam, regev by regev."

History

The kibbutz group was established in 1947 by immigrants from Italy and North Africa who were members of the Habonim Dror youth movement.[https://www.regavim.co.il/ViewPage.asp?pagesCatID=7817&siteName=regavim אודות] Regavim They first settled on the land of the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Butaymat in July 1948,{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=uM_kFX6edX8C |first=Benny |last=Morris |authorlink=Benny Morris |year=2004 |title=The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem Revisited|isbn=978-0-521-00967-6 |publisher=Cambridge University Press|page= [https://books.google.com/books?id=uM_kFX6edX8C&pg=PR20 xx], settlement #15, July, 1948.
