The River Wenning is a tributary of the River Lune, flowing through North Yorkshire and Lancashire. The name derives from the Old English Wann, meaning dark river.{{cite book |last1=Metcalfe |first1=Peter |last2=Gower |first2=Ted |title=Place-names of the Yorkshire Dales: origins and meanings |date=1992 |publisher=North Yorkshire Marketing |location=Harrogate |isbn=1-873214-03-0 |page=79}}
The Wenning is formed from the confluence of Clapham Beck, which rises above Clapham, and Austwick Beck, which rises in Crummackdale above Austwick. It then flows westwards through High Bentham, Low Bentham and Wennington.{{cite book |last1=Dixon |first1=Thomas |editor1-last=Moody |editor1-first=Len |title=Description of the environs of Ingleborough, and principal places on the banks of the river Wenning |date=1994 |orig-date=1781|publisher=Mewith Publications |location=Bentham |isbn=0-9513284-2-5 |page=10}}
The river flows for {{convert|22.67|km|order=flip}} and drains an area of {{convert|64.6|km2|order=flip}}.{{cite web |title=Wenning - Upper|website=Catchment Data Explorer |url=https://environment.data.gov.uk/catchment-planning/WaterBody/GB112072066060 |publisher=Environment Agency |access-date=1 April 2023}}{{cite web |title=Wenning – Lower|website=Catchment Data Explorer|url=https://environment.data.gov.uk/catchment-planning/WaterBody/GB112072065990 |publisher=Environment Agency |access-date=1 April 2023}} It joins the River Lune approximately {{convert|1.5|km|mi|0|order=flip}} west of Hornby.
