The term "Roses rivalry" refers to the rivalry between the English counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire. The rivalry originated in the aftermath of the Wars of the Roses (1455–1487) which was fought between the House of Lancaster and the House of York.{{Cite web|url=https://yorkshiretimes.co.uk/The-Wars-Of-The-Roses|title=The Wars Of The Roses|first=Yorkshire|last=Times|website=yorkshiretimes.co.uk}} The roses rivalry is still present to this day.
