Ruth Pelupessy (27 April 1938 – 21 October 1996) was an Indonesian actress and model. She is best known as the "Queen of female antagonist" in the Indonesian horror film industry along with Suzzanna and Mieke Wijaya and as the "Queen of Indonesian horror" in the 1980s. Her best known role are as Corrie du Bussee in Salah Asuhan (1972) and as Darminah in Pengabdi Setan (1980). Pelupessy won the Citra Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Rahasia Perawan (1975). She worked in a varied range of genres, from horror to drama.

Career

Pelupessy started her career as a model and was joined at Indonesian Modelling Agency (IMA) owned by Non Kawilarang, the mother of actress Rima Melati.{{sfn|Biran|1999}} She continued modeling on the catwalk, even though she was married.{{sfn|Biran|1999}}
Director Asrul Sani considered Pelupessy suitable for the role of Corry.{{sfn|Biran|1999}} She was then recruited to starred in the film based on the Abdul Muis's 1928 novel, Salah Asuhan in 1972, where she starred alongside her good friend, Melati, who had previously entered the film industry.{{sfn|Biran|1999}} She only wanted to act on the white screen once, but in fact, "she couldn't let go," as said by Sani.{{sfn|Biran|1999}}
Pelupessy won the Citra Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Rahasia Perawan (1975) which was directed by Ali Shahab at the 1976 Indonesian Film Festival.{{sfn|Biran|1999}} She then reached the same popularity as an actress who was in the same era with her, such as Connie Sutedja, Mieke Wijaya, Rina Hasyim, and Melati.
Pelupessy later starred in many horror films, one of her best known film is Pengabdi Setan (1980). She take a hiatus after starring in Perkawinan Nyi Blorong (1983).{{sfn|Biran|1999}} Pelupessy returned and starred in her last film Sabar Dulu Dong...! (1989), a comedy film along with Warkop DKI as a sleepwalking hotel guest called Mevrouw.
Personal life

Death and legacy
Pelupessy died in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 21 October 1996 at the age of 58.{{sfn|Biran|1999}}
