Sangatta is a town located in, as well being the capital of, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is however, not an autonomous city and consists of the urban sectionsNorth Sangatta and Singa Gembara desa, and Lingga Bay and Singa Geweh kelurahan. of two districts within the regency, North Sangatta (including a mainly urban community, but with the larger district containing 123,067 inhabitants in mid 2023) and South Sangatta (a largely rural area with 30,760 inhabitants in mid 2023).Badan Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2024.
