Scenario (vehicular automation)
{{automation}}
{{Other uses of|Scenario}}
In the field of vehicular automation a scenario denotes a sequence of snapshots of the environment and the actions of a vehicle. Scenarios are created to represent real-world situations and are used for development, testing, and validation purposes.{{cite book |last1=Fremont |first1=Daniel J. |last2=Kim |first2=Edward |last3=Pant |first3=Yash Vardhan |last4=Seshia |first4=Sanjit A. |last5=Acharya |first5=Atul |last6=Bruso |first6=Xantha |last7=Wells |first7=Paul |last8=Lemke |first8=Steve |last9=Lu |first9=Qiang |last10=Mehta |first10=Shalin |title=2020 IEEE 23rd International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC) |chapter=Formal Scenario-Based Testing of Autonomous Vehicles: From Simulation to the Real World |date=September 2020 |pages=1–8 |doi=10.1109/ITSC45102.2020.9294368 |arxiv=2003.07739 |isbn=978-1-7281-4149-7 |s2cid=212736906 |chapter-url=https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9294368}}{{cite arXiv|last1=Li |first1=Xiaoyi |title=A Scenario-Based Development Framework for Autonomous Driving |date=1 November 2020 |class=cs.DC |eprint=2011.01439}}

Operational design domain
According to ASAM's OpenODD concept paper, scenarios are related to operational design domain. However, they are not the same. Defining the appropriate behavior of actors within an ODD creates a scenario that is not dependent on any ODD definition.{{cite web |date=1 October 2021 |title=ASAM OpenODD: Concept Paper |url=https://www.asam.net/index.php?eID=dumpFile&t=f&f=4544&token=1260ce1c4f0afdbe18261f7137c689b1d9c27576 |access-date=11 June 2023 |website=www.asam.net}}
