Schoenoplectus (club-rush [Old World species], bulrush or tule [New World species]) is a genus of plants in the sedge family with a cosmopolitan distribution.[http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/synonomy.do?name_id=262931 Kew World Checklist of Selected Plant Families][http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=129637 Flora of China, Vol. 23 Page 181, 水葱属 shui cong shu, Schoenoplectus (Reichenbach) Palla, Verh. The genus Schoenoplectus was formerly considered part of Scirpus, but recent phylogenetic data shows that they are not closely related.
