A Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) program is a form of streaming used in government secondary schools in Victoria, Australia to provide a focused educational environment for academically gifted children.{{cite web|url=http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/gifted/acceleration/seal.htm |title=Select Entry Acceleration Learning (SEAL) Programs|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070302100549/http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/gifted/acceleration/seal.htm|archivedate=2007-03-02|publisher=State of Victoria (Department of Education) |date=4 October 2006}}{{cite web|url=http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/gifted/acceleration/options.htm|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070302100746/http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/gifted/acceleration/options.htm |title=Acceleration Options|archivedate=2007-03-02|publisher=State of Victoria (Department of Education) |date=4 October 2006}}
The program allows students to undertake Year 8 work in Year 7, and the option to complete their secondary education in five years instead of six, or students can choose to undertake a more comprehensive Victorian Certificate of Education that takes three years instead of two.{{cite news |title= It's just a swot hop to the top |url= http://www.theaustralian.com.au/higher-education/its-just-a-swot-hop-to-the-top/story-e6frgcjx-1226566868295 |publisher= Newscorp |url-access=subscription |archiveurl= https://web.archive.org/web/20130208135201/http://www.theaustralian.com.au/higher-education/its-just-a-swot-hop-to-the-top/story-e6frgcjx-1226566868295 |archivedate= 2013-02-08 |first=Alice | last=Pung

In 2016, the Department of Education stopped accrediting the SEAL program, with a spokesman saying that schools that offer the program should offer enrolment to local students before students outside the school's zoning region.{{Cite news|url=https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/department-walks-away-from-selectentry-programs-for-gifted-students-20160404-gnxzti.html|title=Department walks away from select-entry programs for gifted students|last=Cook|first=Henrietta|date=4 April 2016|work=The Age|access-date=13 May 2018}}
Controversies
As a form of streaming, SEAL programs by their very nature attract criticism from those committed to the principles of comprehensive education. Additionally, because they are not offered by every school, the schools that run them are argued to take away the top students from schools that don't, thus leading to a pool of less diverse schools and a concentration of bright students in a small number of schools.{{cite web|url=http://www.theage.com.au/news/National/Gifted-pupils-drift-from-state-schools/2005/02/25/1109180110509.html |title=Gifted pupils drift from state schools|first= Roslyn|last= Guy|work= The Age|date=26 February 2005}}{{cite web|url=http://www.theage.com.au/news/National/SEAL-performs-but-not-all-applaud/2005/03/04/1109700674071.html?from=moreStories |title=SEAL performs but not all applaud|first= Roslyn|last= Guy|work= The Age|date=5 March 2005}}{{cite web|url=http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/10/04/1096871811720.html?from=storylhs |title=Selective entry: the state school dilemma |work=The Age |date=5 October 2004}}{{cite web|url=http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,21645700-5011683,00.html |title=Test Case|work=The Herald Sun|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110615093716/http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/learn/test-case/story-e6frf7ox-1111113440607 |archivedate=2011-06-15| last=Siobhan | first=Duck | date=1 May 2007}}
