Music and style
Critics made a parallel with British post-punk of the late 1970s, Magazine and Gang of Four. NME wrote that "French frontwoman Jehnny Beth has moulded herself into the demonic, possessed spawn of Ian Curtis and Siouxsie Sioux". Uncut retrospectively said about the music: "It is a bit Siouxsie, a bit Stranglers, a bit Magazine – and after a decade-odd of bands reviving the sounds and strategies of post-punk".{{cite magazine |first=Louis |last=Pattison |url=http://www.uncut.co.uk/reviews/album/savages-adore-life |title=Adore Life- review |magazine=Uncut |date=10 February 2016 |accessdate=10 January 2016 |url-status=bot: unknown |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20180118003431/http://www.uncut.co.uk/reviews/album/savages-adore-life |archivedate=18 January 2018 |df=dmy-all }}

Retrospectively, Silence has continued to earn critical praise. In 2016, Treble placed it on their list of the 21st century's essential post-punk albums.{{Cite web|url=https://www.treblezine.com/27697-10-best-21st-century-post-punk-albums/|author=Treble Staff|date=January 28, 2016|title=10 Essential 21st century post-punk albums|work=Treble|access-date=July 28, 2022}} In 2020, NME included Silence in their list of 15 "wildly influential" records in the post-punk genre. Noting Savages' "much-needed dose of self-mythology" they brought with them, they credited the band with sparking important questions about the perceived "bolshy [and] intimidating" nature of women in punk music.{{Cite web|url=https://www.nme.com/en_au/features/best-post-punk-albums-joy-division-the-fall-souxsie-and-the-banshees-2744248|last=Hunt|first=El|date=September 3, 2020|title=The story of post-punk in 15 classic albums|work=NME|access-date=July 28, 2022}}
