Solar power in Hungary has been rapidly advancing due to government support and declining system prices. By the end of 2023 Hungary had just over 5.8 GW of photovoltaics capacity, a massive increase from a decade prior.{{cite web|url=https://www.eurobserv-er.org/photovoltaic-barometer-2024/ |title=Photovoltaic Barometer 2024|page=2/7|author=|publisher=EurObserv’ER|date=2024-04-30|access-date=2024-11-30}} Solar power accounted for 24.8% of the country's electricity generation in 2024, up from less than 0.1% in 2010.{{cite web|url=https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/share-electricity-solar?tab=chart&country=~HUN |title=Share of electricity production from solar - Hungary|author=|publisher=Our World in Data|date=2024-06-20|access-date=2024-11-30}}{{cite web|url=https://bbj.hu/economy/energy/green-energy/solar-power-accounted-for-25-of-electricity-generation-in-2024/ |title=Solar Power Accounted for 25% of Electricity Generation in 2024|author=|publisher=Budapest Business Journal|date=2025-01-25|access-date=2025-02-15}}
In 2023, the country's Minister of Energy, Csaba Lantos, predicted Hungary's target for 6,000 MW of PV capacity by 2030 would likely be exceeded twice over, hitting 12,000 MW instead.{{cite web|url=https://bbj.hu/economy/energy/green-energy/hungary-adds-over-1-gw-to-solar-capacity-in-h1 |title=Hungary Adds Over 1 GW to Solar Capacity in H1|author=|publisher=Budapest Business Journal|date=2023-07-03|access-date=2023-07-03}}{{cite web|url=https://ceenergynews.com/renewables/hungary-launches-its-largest-solar-power-plant-to-date/ |title=Hungary launches its largest solar power plant to date|author=Evelin Szőke|publisher=CEEnergyNews|date=2023-06-12|access-date=2023-07-03}} 2024 statistics confirmed the previous 6,000 MW by 2030 target was exceeded six years early, with PV capacity rising to 7,550 MW and solar power producing a record 24.8% of national electricity generation -- the highest in the EU.{{cite web|url=https://bbj.hu/economy/energy/green-energy/solar-power-accounted-for-25-of-electricity-generation-in-2024/ |title=Solar Power Accounted for 25% of Electricity Generation in 2024|author=|publisher=Budapest Business Journal|date=2025-01-25|access-date=2025-02-15}}
