It was originally released in 1982 by Zonophone, a division of EMI. Although it wasn't released by Riot City Records the band decided to use the Riot City name as it was a label they founded. It was later re-released by Dojo and Captain Oi! both with the same five bonus tracks.{{Cite web |last=Canty |first=Ian |date=2019-10-23 |title=Vice Squad - The Albums 1981-84 - album review |url=https://louderthanwar.com/vice-squad-the-album-1981-84-album-review/ |access-date=2025-05-18 |website=Louder Than War |language=en-GB}}

Stand Strong Stand Proud contributed to the band's presence in the punk scene, reaching #47 on the UK Albums Chart. While its sales did not match some other releases, it maintained a strong position for a punk album at the time.{{Cite web |title=Retro Action 26: Vice Squad Box Set |url=https://newnoisemagazine.com/column/retro-action-25-vice-squad-box-set-2/ |access-date=2025-05-18 |website=New Noise Magazine |language=en-US}}
