Somalia is a federal republic. It consists of 6 federal member states--Somaliland, Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshaabelle, South West, and Jubaland{{Cite web |title=Federal Member States |url=https://mop.gov.so/federal-member-states/ |website=Ministry of Planning}}--as well as an interim administration, Khatumo, and a regional administration, Banaadir. Somalia is further subdivided into 18 administrative regions (gobollo, singular gobol),{{cite web|url=https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/somalia/|title=Somalia|access-date=2009-05-31|date=2009-05-14|work=World Factbook|publisher=Central Intelligence Agency}} which are in turn subdivided into districts.

History

Puntland is a federal state in the northeast of Somalia. Galmudug is a federal state in central Somalia. Jubaland is a federal state in the south of Somalia. Regional administrations

The Banaadir Regional Administration (BRA) covers the area of the capital city Mogadishu, and does not belong to any federal member state.

Regions
