Background
"Supalonely" was written during a month-long trip to Los Angeles. It was inspired by Benee's breaking up with her boyfriend, and was written as a song in which she could mock her own sadness.{{Cite web|url=https://thespinoff.co.nz/music/06-05-2020/exclusive-new-song-from-benee/|title=Exclusive: New song from Benee|last=Adams|first=Josie|date=6 May 2020|website=The Spinoff|access-date=6 May 2020|archive-date=8 May 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200508051517/https://thespinoff.co.nz/music/06-05-2020/exclusive-new-song-from-benee/|url-status=live}} The song "Blu" from Stella & Steve was recorded the day after "Supalonely" during the Los Angeles trip, and was inspired by the same break-up.{{Cite web |url=https://i-d.co/article/benee-and-gus-dapperton-turn-breakup-blues-into-sunny-pop-on-supalonely/ |title=BENEE and Gus Dapperton turn breakup blues into sunny pop on Supalonely |last=Marsh |first=Ariana |date=5 February 2020 |website=i-D |access-date=6 May 2020 |archive-date=5 March 2020 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200305212558/https://i-d.vice.com/en_uk/article/jgeg8b/benee-and-gus-dapperton-turn-breakup-blues-into-sunny-pop-on-supalonely |url-status=live }}
Up to three versions of the song exist: the explicit version, the clean version which omits the f-word and replaces the b-word with "chick",{{cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCz9ibPjY4Y|title=BENEE - Supalonely (Clean - Lyrics) ft.
