Critical reception

At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 78, based on 6 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Damien Morris of The Guardian gave the album four out of five stars, stating it "creates songs you'll replay because you can't get their comforting weirdness anywhere else."{{Cite news |last=Morris |first=Damien |date=2023-05-28 |title=Clark: Sus Dog review – comforting weirdness you can't get anywhere else |language=en-GB |work=The Observer |url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/may/28/clark-sus-dog-review-chris-clark-comforting-weirdness-you-cant-get-anywhere-else-thom-yorke |access-date=2023-09-06 |issn=0029-7712}} Harry Tafoya at Pitchfork described it as "warm and gratifying, offering the veteran electronic musician’s fragile falsetto as a graceful counterpoint to his intricate production." Paul Attard of Slant Magazine was more critical, stating the album's techniques "rarely finds a means of organically incorporating them into the IDM veteran's bass-heavy sound."{{Cite web |last=Attard |first=Paul |date=2023-05-24 |title=Clark 'Sus Dog' Review: A Series of Ghostly, Opaque Soundscapes |url=https://www.slantmagazine.com/music/clark-sus-dog-album-review/ |access-date=2023-09-06 |website=Slant Magazine |language=en-US}}
