The band started in early 2002, and broke up in 2006, after Hellfest, which the band was to play, but was cancelled at the last minute.{{cite web|url=https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/as-the-story-grows/id962812433?i=346891300&mt=2|title=Collin Simula of Maranatha|publisher=As The Story Grows|first=Collin|last=Simula|interviewer=Trav Turner & Stephen Sarro|date=July 12, 2015|access-date=May 16, 2016}} As of 2022, they are active again with several new members.

History

Symphony in Peril formed in Columbus, OH in early 2002. The band gained attention quite early in their development because Shawn Jonas, former vocalist for popular metalcore band Zao, was one of the founding members.{{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.unboundzine.com/symphonyinperil.html |date=* |title=Interview with Shawn Jonas }}. Unbound Zine. 2004. Retrieved on June 11, 2008.

Quickly, they signed with Facedown Records, and released their debut full-length, Lost Memoirs and Faded Pictures, in 2003. The band toured nationally and internationally with bands such as Nodes of Ranvier and the Chariot and also performed at the Cornerstone and Sonshine festivals.

In March 2005, shortly after releasing their second album, The Whore's Trophy, the band announced that vocalist Shawn Jonas had left the band. In June of the same year, the band announced that John Pope, former singer for fellow Ohio band Narcissus, would be replacing Jonas.[https://web.archive.org/web/20050614010256/http://www.facedownrecords.com/news.htm Symphony in Peril Announce new vocalist], Archive of Facedown Records news page (June 7, 2005), Retrieved on June 11, 2008

Later that year, in October, the band announced via their MySpace blog that the band would break up after a few final performances in November.{{cite web|url=http://www.altpress.com/news/entry/archive_66|title=Symphony In Peril break up|publisher=Alternative Press|date=October 21, 2005|accessdate=January 19, 2016}}

In more recent years, Drummer/Bassist Collin Simula formed a new project titled Maranatha, which was the first band of any of the members from SIP.{{cite web|url=http://www.indievisionmusic.com/2012/02/28/maranatha-ex-symphony-in-peril-incarnate-now-available/|title=Maranatha (Ex-Symphony In Peril) "Incarnate" now available|publisher=Indie Vision Music|first=Brandon|last=J.|date=February 28, 2012|access-date=October 3, 2015|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20151007194810/http://www.indievisionmusic.com/2012/02/28/maranatha-ex-symphony-in-peril-incarnate-now-available/|archive-date=October 7, 2015|df=mdy-all}}

In October 2022 the band was active again with a lineup including Shawn and Andy Capps and released a new single.{{cite web|url=https://www.indievisionmusic.com/news/symphony-in-peril-announce-new-song-and-lineup/|title=Symphony in Peril Announce New Song and Lineup|publisher=Indie Vision Music|access-date=April 14, 2023|date=September 19, 2022}} On February 22, 2023, it was announced the band will play their first show in 18 years at the 2023 Furnace Fest preshow.{{cite web|url=https://lambgoat.com/news/38145/symphony-in-peril-and-nothing-til-blood-to-play-furnace-fest-preshow/|title=Symphony In Peril and Nothing Til Blood to play Furnace Fest Preshow|publisher=Lambgoat|access-date=April 14, 2023|date=February 3, 2023}} In 2022, the band formed under the lineup of returning members Shawn Jonas and Andy Capps, with new members Dan Pelletier on guitars, Chico Weeks on bass, and Michael DeSerio on drums.{{cite web|url=https://www.instagram.com/p/CimAwoUN7Kq/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==|title=Introducing the SIP family|website=Instagram|date=September 17, 2022|accessdate=November 13, 2023}} However, by 2023, the lineup shifted with Weeks and DeSerio departing from the band, which Pelletier explained was due to the distance between band members.{{cite web|url=https://www.gabbermedia.com/dft-dungeon/2023/10/22/a-conversation-with-danny-pelletier-of-symphony-in-peril|title=A Conversation With Danny Pelletier of Symphony in Peril|website=Gabber Media|publisher=DFT's Dungeon|interviewer=Daniel Terry|first=Danny|last=Pelletier|date=October 22, 2023|accessdate=November 13, 2023}} In 2023, the band now featured Bryan Yost on bass and Josh King on drums.{{cite web|url=https://www.instagram.com/p/Cx3f0-CAue8/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==|title=Photo by Nick Zimmer Photography|website=Instagram|date=October 1, 2023|accessdate=November 13, 2023}}
