Similarity to aerial lift
The content is very similar to Aerial lift. As to the category: a cable car is never a vertical transportation device.
An elevator or lift in a building is vertical, but not a cable car. --AHert (talk) 18:30, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Proposed combination
This page (Cable car), Tramway (industrial) and Aerial tramway should all be combined and/or tidied up somehow. SewerCat (talk) 20:27, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Formatting
This page's formatting was a horrible mess before (everything under the Aerial Lift section was listed as a subsection of it), so I fixed that up a bit. The information/writing needs work as well, but unfortunately I don't know enough about the subject to do so. The Anonymous Cat (talk) 21:25, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Purpose of this article?
It seems to me that the word "Cable car" has two more or less unrelated meanings - in the UK it normally means what Wikipedia calls an aerial lift; in the US it seems it usually means what Wikipedia covers at Cable car (railway) (which in the UK I think we would call a cable-operated railway or cable tram). This seems to be trying to be an article about both those things, and about the general concept of cable transportation which we cover at Cable transport. Is there any purpose to this article, or should it just be deleted and become a disambiguation to those two pages? (I will probably propose deletion of this shortly unless someone can plausibly explain what purpose this article serves.) TSP (talk) 17:37, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
: Having read back on the talk page and noticed that this problem has been pointed out multiple times before, I've gone ahead and stripped this page back vastly to more or less what it was in early 2013: a simple list to disambiguate between the various meanings. I think that everything I stripped out either (a) was specific to one of the meanings of the term, so belongs on Aerial lift, Cable car (railway), Cable transport or somewhere else, not here; or (b) was hopelessly generic and unsourced in trying to make generalisations about almost totally different forms of transport. Seilbahn
:de:Seilbahn is linked to cable car. That makes on sense. Peter Horn User talk 01:33, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
:{{Ping|User:ArnoldReinhold}} Hello Arnold,
Perhaps you can sort this out. Cable transport may be an alternative. Peter Horn User talk 01:40, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Category Main Article
:Category:Cableways links back here as it's main article which is now a disambig page. Should it be a different article?
