International Emmy for the Performing Arts
A lot of bios about Christopher Lawrence say that he was awarded an "International Emmy for the Performing Arts". I expect this was self-authored, as it also appears in bios of books he has authored. We are currently using [http://www.abc.net.au/classic/program/mornings/presenter/ this] source. [http://www.abc.net.au/corp/pubs/media/s2779508.htm This] ABC press release says it was "New York, 1989", and it does look like the 17 Annual International Emmy Awards was held in New York on 20 November 1989.[https://secure.flickr.com/photos/michaelbilton/6590811985/] However our page International Emmy does not have "Performing Arts" as one of its categories, and I cant see any relevant entry at List of International Emmy Award winners, which has entries going back to 1967 and matches [http://www.iemmys.tv/awards_previous.aspx the official list of past winners] quite closely.(However, International Emmy says it was established in the early 1970s)
I did some digging and recorded at Talk:List_of_International_Emmy_Award_winners#IMDB_and_others that there are many uses of this term despite it not being in the authoritative list. John Vandenberg (chat) 09:49, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
:I asked Christopher Lawrence directly on twitter about this - [https://twitter.com/morgenmeister/status/508387620913565696 he responded with details of the award itself] (which I've now added to the article) and have asked for a followup with advice for finding a good source, since the official list for that award category only goes back to 2002. ::Thanks for that. But Christopher doesn't mention La bohème; where did that come from? Still, I did find a mention of a televised production of that opera in that year by the Victoria State Opera (VSO) with Kiri te Kanawa [https://opera.org.au/aboutus/opera_australia/our_history/chronology here], but nothing further. Mists of time ... -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 12:37, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
:::I found La Boheme by putting '1989 international Emmy arts programming Australian opera" in to google which came up with these two online CVs [http://www.melbaoperatrust.com.au/scholarships/the-mentor-program/faculty-of-mentors/andrew-sinclair/] [http://www.john-wegner.com/John_Wegner_Home_Page/Biog.html] which correlate with the story of that production being filmed for ABC TV and winning the award. Neither is a Reliable Source for footnoting purposes but it's fair to assume that this is the same opera that Mr Lawrence is referring to. Wittylama 22:14, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
::::Good digging! I'm quite happy to let the matter rest at this point and have the footnote removed from the article. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:26, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
:::::PS: {{yo|Wittylama}}: While Christopher Lawrence's Twitter response to you pointed to [http://www.abc.net.au/abccontentsales/s1343790.htm this page] for a 1988 production of La bohème, I only now noticed (I have the DVD) that he is also credited for Sound Production of Opera Australia's legendary 1993/94 recording of the same opera. He is a busy boy. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:54, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
