:GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

It looks like this article has been waiting for a while, so I'll go ahead and get started on it. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 06:16, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

  1. It is reasonably well written.
  2. :a (prose, spelling, and grammar): {{GAList/check|fail}} b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists): {{GAList/check|fail}}
  3. ::* Parke's name is used a lot; it might help readability to replace some instances with "he" or "him".
  4. ::* It might be confusing to have Churchill's name change with his title. Would it be possible to just refer to him as "Churchill" or "Marlborough" and remove the note?
  5. ::* Is there a reason why his attempted political career in England is listed under his personal life instead of chronologically in "Early life"?
  6. ::* {{tq|Upon learning of his autocratic rule in the Leeward Islands prior to his murder, English government officials quietly supported Douglas' decision not to pursue charges against Parke's murderers}} – This should immediately follow the sentence about deciding not to pursue charges.
  7. ::* {{tq|The illegitimate Lucy}} – This wording seems strange. Perhaps "Lucy, his illegitimate daughter," or something like that.
  8. ::* {{tq|came to a head}} – Avoid idioms.
  9. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
  10. :a (reference section): {{GAList/check|pass}} b (citations to reliable sources): {{GAList/check|pass}} c (OR): {{GAList/check|fail}} d (copyvio and plagiarism): {{GAList/check|pass}}
  11. :: Well-organized bibliography, all sources are books that appear to be reliable. Only result on WP:EARWIG search was a 0.0% match. Unfortunately, I could not access the most used source (Falkner 2004). I was, however, able to check the article against several of its other sources (Clark, Falkner 2014, Fischer, Harris, McArver, O'Shaughnessy, Webb, and Zacek) to make up for this.
  12. ::* Falkner 2014 presents the origin of his rank as a fact. Is there something in Falkner 2004 that suggests it should be attributed to the author rather than stated in wikivoice?
  13. ::* Where in Falkner 2014 does it say that he {{tq|did make several attempts to acquire an officer's commission in the English Army while in Europe, though these were consistently rebuffed}}
  14. ::* It's unclear what's supporting what with the Clark and Lockridge citations.
  15. ::* {{tq|Best known for his military service in Europe}} – According to whom?
  16. It is broad in its coverage.
  17. :a (major aspects): {{GAList/check|fail}} b (focused): {{GAList/check|pass}}
  18. :: No excessive detail. Some aspects might need additional coverage.
  19. ::* {{tq|Parke's nascent political career was rife with tensions as he engaged in several disputes and feuds with other politicians, eventually moving back to England in 1701.}} – What sort of disputes and feuds? What did they disagree about, and how did it affect Parke's career?
  20. ::* Can more be said about Parke's {{tq|campaign to restore the rule of law to the region}}? What measures did he take? I see one in Webb, in that he enlisted the support of Michael Ayon as provost marshal.
  21. ::* Falkner 2014 says {{tq|Parke abandoned his family in Virginia, going to live in London with his mistress}}. Could more be said about this?
  22. ::* It might be significant to mention that Parke was the only English colonial governor to ever be assassinated.
  23. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
  24. :Fair representation without bias: {{GAList/check|pass}}
  25. :: Article complies with NPOV.
  26. It is stable.
  27. :No edit wars, etc.: {{GAList/check|pass}}
  28. :: No disputes on talk page or in edit history.
  29. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
  30. :a (images are tagged and non-free content have non-free use rationales): {{GAList/check|pass}} b (appropriate use with suitable captions): {{GAList/check|fail}}
  31. :: Both images are appropriate and in the public domain. The infobox image should have a caption that names the subject, artist, and year of production.
  32. Overall: The article is pretty good overall. There are just a few things that need to be checked and a few things that could be added. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 07:30, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

  34. :Pass/Fail: {{GAList/check|fail}}
