I noticed a slight inaccuracy in the current description of Madagascar. While the statement mentions it as the "44th largest country in the world," the actual ranking is 46th.

Here's the corrected sentence:

Madagascar, officially the Republic of Madagascar, is an island country comprising the island of Madagascar and numerous smaller peripheral islands. Lying off the southeastern coast of Africa, it is the world's fourth largest island, the second-largest island country, and the 46th largest country in the world. [14]

I believe this edit ensures the information aligns with current geographical data.

:The reference cited in the article supports the claim that it's the second largest island nation by area, but it doesn't support the other claims. The [https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/madagascar/#geography CIA World Factbook] lists it at #49. So, yes, something needs to be cleaned up here. I would like to request an update to be made to the economy section of the page. The graph showing the GDP change is outdated (2015). I already uploaded the latest version of the graph to wikipedia commons.

Under [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madagascar#Administrative_divisions the Administrative divisions section], the article states that there are 22 regions. However, the Regions_of_Madagascar article states that there are 23, with Vatovavy-Fitovinany having been split into Vatovavy and Fitovinany on 16 June 2021. The table in the Madagascar page also links to each region individually, as opposed to the collective region, so there is at least some acknowledgement of the split already present in the Madagascar article. The table in that section should probably split the row:

It's not clear to me why the sum of the areas and populations disagree of the "new" records do not match the "old" record. Both are pulled directly from the Regions of Madagascar page.
