Article title

"The US Gulf of Mexico" doesn't make sense in the file name; we can either have Offshore oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico (including material about drilling in Mexican waters) or a narrower article along the lines of Offshore oil and gas in United States waters in the Gulf of Mexico. But "the US Gulf of Mexico" will confuse readers. Neutralitytalk 12:42, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

:Thanks for your comment, but I disagree that the title leads to confusion. I believe that the average reader will understand "US Gulf of Mexico" to mean "United States waters in the Gulf of Mexico," or, more precisely, the "United States exclusive economic zone in the Gulf of Mexico." What other interpretation do you believe readers will put on it? As for having a joint article on US and Mexican offshore oil production in the Gulf, that makes little sense to me. Unlike the North Sea, where there is really a single oil industry divided up by national boundaries, the main US and Mexican offshore oil areas are not contiguous, do not share the same geology, and have different historical patterns of exploration. I think that they have so little in common that there is no advantage to putting them together in the same article. By the way, I appreciate your work in cleaning up these offshore articles. Regards. Gulf of Mexico vs. Gulf of America naming issue

Yes, Trump signed an executive order renaming the gulf to the "Gulf of America" but this largely applies only in the United States. As the gulf is internationally referred to as the "Gulf of Mexico" I believe it should be named so in this article. Uhhhjackiguess (talk) 17:32, 28 February 2025 (UTC)

Gulf of America

Since the Gulf of America talk page is extended protected now, I have a question. Why is the name not changed yet? The UN recognizes the name change, and so does most of the anglosphere. Why aren't you guys changing it? Spanish wikipedia can still call it Golfo de Mexico because they don't recognize the name change. Please can we change the name? Or at least come up with a compromise? People who are doing research on the gulf will not be able to find it when googling "Gulf of America". It is only convenient. 38.43.35.68 (talk) 20:57, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
