Hi, I'm Kingsif, and I'll be doing this review. This is an automated message that helps keep the bot updating the nominated article's talkpage working and allows me to say hi. Feel free to reach out and, if you think the review has gone well, I have some open GA nominations that you could (but are under no obligation to) look at. Kingsif (talk) 22:04, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

  • Ref numbers as of [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=WTVP&oldid=1287784820 this revision].
  • I'll do a sample source review for a random 9 of the 45 refs.
  • 19 of the refs are completely offline - could I ask for 3 of these to be confirmed? At random: [10] {{small|Brown, Dayna R. (July 16, 2003). "WTVP-TV travels to new home -- Public TV stations [sic] closes up shop at Bradley for Downtown digs". Peoria Journal Star. p. B6.}}, [16] {{small|Bibo, Terry (January 12, 2008). Apply basic calculation rule to the 'second within two years' part. {{tick}}

I'd AGF this info was in the other source but both sources are from the 70s and WSEC apparently started broadcasting in the 80s. Can you confirm this?

:** WSEC has a history as a facility that predates 1984. The article is terribly cited, but the missing link is WJJY-TV; the facility was a commercial station that failed hard. So you know, someone years ago worked on the Convocom and related articles in such a way that they need a lot of digging through sourcing to verify. I'm hoping to wade through the others someday. Nearly all of the public TV stations in downstate Illinois are possible projects for me now (except maybe WEIU).

:*Ref [https://web.archive.org/web/20250323011947/https://www.wtvp.org/about/wtvp-board-of-directors/members/ #39] - I feel this source could fall victim to usurp/rot at any time and recommend adding an archive link. Perhaps an earlier one than the one I've attached here, which doesn't confirm any of {{tq|The chair and vice chair of WTVP's board of directors resigned in January 2024, with nine board members resigning the next month. Eight new board members}}. The best we have is that seven of the mini-bios have videos about their appointment from 2024. {{cross}} It does source Stoller and Tomczyk's info. Is there a previous link or other source for the resignations and number of elections?

:** WTVP's board has gone through a lot of turnover, obviously. I have redone this paragraph with news sourcing that should contain the material in the article. There are also some new sentences covering developments in 2025 (insurance lawsuit and the unfreezing of CPB funding).

  • Looking pretty good, little question on #29 and the concern with #39 I assume stems from an outdated link. Unless the three requested offline come back with issues, I'm confident to accept the sample as reflective of good source handling. Kingsif (talk) 22:36, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

  • Some questions on the structure of the info in the early years section:
  • Much of the first paragraph is talking about BU's programming, and they broadcast on the channel first, so is it really right to open the paragraph(/section/article body) with Illinois Valley Public Telecommunications Corporation's application? Is there more info about the relevancy of this corporation's application in the big scheme of things?
  • Wait, I think it's saying that the IVPTC was formed by BU and the five groups? This isn't clear. Yeah, I think moving the info around (for chronology and clarity) will definitely help. Also think the "however" in this part is not helpful.
  • Decided to reword this to avoid the odd structure I had here.
  • {{tq|within months of sign-on}} - do we know when specifically this was?
  • {{tq|Basquin was appointed station manager in 1971, shortly after the station signed on the air.}} from source. Reworded a bit.
  • Sub-header "A downtown move; near-foreclosure" is a bit too flowery I think; "Downtown move and near-foreclosure" would be the still-interesting but more tonally suitable version.
  • {{tq|$10.3 million in bonds, and in 2005, WTVP was}} → "$10.3 million in bonds and, in 2005, WTVP was"
  • Your proposal has a CinS issue, but the fix is to use a semicolon.
  • {{tq|WTVP had already made out of pocket}} - would "done out of pocket" be better? It just reads weird with "made" because it's not talking about payments (i.e. making payments), but the act of paying (i.e. something one does).
  • Reworded
  • Is there more info on the station between 2014 and 2023? And what's happened since January 2024?
  • See above.
  • {{tq|WTVP originated local television coverage of}} - better to use "began" rather than "originated", as "originated" would be to say that other stations later picked up coverage of the basketball and WTVP is just where doing that started, which is not what's being said. I might even opt for the phrasing "WTVP began covering" to replace this whole fragment.
  • Reworded here. What was intended was that they were first.
  • {{tq|up to 10}} - ten should be written out.
  • Done.
  • Neutrality and, except where noted, tone are good. Focus is good. Some question on gaps in more recent times for broadness. Kingsif (talk) 23:02, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

=Overall=

Hi Sammi, been a while since I've reviewed one of these radio stations.

Simple criteria: history and talkpage stable. [https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=WTVP&oldid=&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1&turnitin=0 Copyvio clear]. Illustration good - free logo and photo, clear subchannel table, article short enough to not require more. Source and prose review to come. Kingsif (talk) 22:08, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

  • That's all my review comments, just gonna wait on the three offline source requests and a handful of things, mostly minor, to be addressed. Kingsif (talk) 23:03, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
  • {{ping|Kingsif}} Done. Make sure to check the Google Drive link added here which contains your requested offline sources. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 00:22, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
  • :Edits all look good. Thanks for getting the offline sources - note that [10] says "about" 30,000 square feet, not precisely; [16] does not mention the Illinois Facilities Fund {{small|In context, it appears {{tq|matching money from businesses and individuals, primarily Caterpillar Inc.}} would refer to this?}}; [20] is all good. Kingsif (talk) 02:54, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
  • ::@Kingsif It's in the other ref: {{tq|The WTVP board has said $4 million - $2 million in cash, mostly from the recent Save Our Station pledge campaign, and a $2 million mortgage from National City Bank and the Illinois Facilities Fund - is the best it can do.}} Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 08:06, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
  • :::Could that ref be added to the end of the fragment? Kingsif (talk) 13:48, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
  • ::::@Kingsif Decided to just have both refs at the end of the sentence given the mix of content in the sentence from both. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 14:50, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
  • Thanks, {{ping|Sammi Brie}} - happy to pass this. Kingsif (talk) 20:35, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
