Production
The boat line was built by Tartan Marine in the United States between 1979 and 1984, but it is now out of production. Design
The Tartan 33 line are all small recreational keelboats, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. They have internally-mounted spade-type rudders and fixed keels. All models have a length overall of {{convert|33.67|ft|m|1|abbr=on}}, a waterline length of {{convert|28.83|ft|m|1|abbr=on}}, displace {{convert|10000|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carry {{convert|4400|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of ballast.
The boats were all factory-fitted with a Universal 5242 diesel engine of {{convert|24|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}}. The fuel tank holds {{convert|26|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|60|u.s.gal}}.

:This model was introduced in 1979 and about 20 were built in this configuration. It has a fractional sloop rig with a shorter fore-triangle (parameter "I") by {{convert|3|ft|m|1|abbr=on}} and longer boom (parameter "E") by {{convert|2.63|ft|m|1|abbr=on}} than later boats. The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.42|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard fin keel. The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.56|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard Scheel keel and {{convert|6.25|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the optional longer fin keel.
;Tartan 33 R
:This model was also introduced in 1979 and 14 examples were built. It was intended to be a more competitive racing boat than the Tartan 33 and has a masthead sloop rig.
