Teahouse not accessible to anons anymore?
Why was the link to the Teahouse removed? The edit summary says {{tq|they [IP editors] can't ask a question at this place anymore}}, but I couldn't find more info about that from a quick look at the Teahouse or its "About" page. (I Ctrl+F'd "anon", "ip" [whole word], and "register".)
@Moxy
Thanks — W.andrea (talk) 12:58, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
:BTW, that edit introduced a double newline that should be fixed. The HTML comment could be expanded; see what I mean in the sandbox. — W.andrea (talk) 13:05, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
:Moxy answered this implicitly below: The Teahouse is semi-protected, so anons can't use it. [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=Wikipedia%3ATeahouse&tagfilter=&type=protect&user=&wpFormIdentifier=logeventslist&wpdate=&wpfilters%5B0%5D=newusers&offset=&limit=500 It's been protected most of the time since February and a good chunk of the time since September]. — W.andrea (talk) 22:13, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Suggested edits on 18 March 2025
- Re-add link to Teahouse but in a way that implies registration first
- Break first paragraph
- Clarify that it's {{em|your}} IP address
- +links: {{textdiff|You are welcome to edit anonymously; however, creating an account is free and has several benefits (for example, the ability to create pages, upload media and edit without one's IP address being visible to the public).|You are welcome to edit anonymously; however, creating an account is free and has several benefits (for example, the ability to create pages, upload media and edit without your IP address being visible to the public).}}
- Nest Contributing link under the tutorial

:{{halfdone}} I can do this but...Semi-protected pages cannot be edited by unregistered users (IP addresses), as well as accounts that are not confirmed or autoconfirmed.
:Perhaps we should add "{{edit|Special:MyTalk|Just use this link to ask for help|section=new|preload=Help:Contents/helpmepreload|preloadtitle=Help me!}}; a volunteer will visit you here shortly!" Moxy🍁 15:33, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
::Ohhh, the Teahouse is semi-protected! That explains your previous edit :) In that case, "Just use this link" is perfect, thanks. — W.andrea (talk) 21:24, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
:::Wonder if I should turn this into a button like the rest of this is? Moxy🍁 22:59, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
::::Sure, yeah, since the Teahouse link was a button, that would be good for consistency. — W.andrea (talk) 23:08, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Is unregistered editing really "anonymous"?
I feel like there's a better way to describe it, like change {{tqq|edit anonymously}} to {{tqq|edit without creating an account}}. I mean, "anonymous" literally means "without a name", which is true, but to me it also implies more privacy than you get by having your IP address exposed. P.S. If there's a better place to discuss this, LMK. — W.andrea (talk) 01:31, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
