In his review for AllMusic, Thom Jurek says that the record "is one of those magical dates where everything that happens does so for a reason, and the result clarifies the process without much effort."{{allMusic|last=Jurek|first=Thom|class=album|id=mw0000732172|title=Evan Parker/Agustí Fernández – Tempranillo: Review|accessdate=July 15, 2015}}
The Penguin Guide to Jazz says about the pianist that "At moments, he sounds as if be might be playing scores pieces by Xenakis or Stockhausen; at others, some passionate folk theme seems about to announce itself. Parker goes about his music with the same intensity as ever, listening, responding, interpolating new ideas."{{cite book|last = Cook|first = Richard|author-link = Richard Cook (journalist)|author2=Brian Morton |authorlink2=Brian Morton (Scottish writer) |title = The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD|origyear = |edition = 6th|series = The Penguin Guide to Jazz|year = 2002|publisher = Penguin|location = London|isbn = 0140515216|pages = 1156}}
