Critical reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic rated the album three stars out of five and wrote that the "blend of the secular and the sacred, the new and the old, is a signature for Rascal Flatts, and it works well here."{{cite web|author1=Erlewine, Stephen Thomas |title=The Greatest Gift of All - Rascal Flatts {{!}} Songs, Reviews, Credits|url=http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-greatest-gift-of-all-mw0002978166|website=AllMusic|publisher=All Media Network|accessdate=March 19, 2017|author1-link=Stephen Thomas Erlewine}} Laura Hostelley of Sounds Like Nashville wrote that the group "use their years of experience in the studio to attract attention," and complimented the album's production for setting it apart from other holiday-themed releases.{{cite news|last1=Hostelley|first1=Laura|title=Album Review: Rascal Flatts' 'The Greatest Gift of All'|url=http://www.soundslikenashville.com/reviews/album-review-rascal-flatts-the-greatest-gift-of-all/|accessdate=March 19, 2017|work=Sounds Like Nashville|publisher=SpinMedia|date=October 20, 2016}}
