The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie – Music from the Movie and More... is the soundtrack to the 2004 animated film The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and the second soundtrack album focused on the American animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. It was released on November 9, 2004 by Sire Records and Nick Records.
Background
The album is an example of the crew of SpongeBob SquarePants{{'}} eclectic musical tastes. When The Flaming Lips member Wayne Coyne suggested a duet with Justin Timberlake, series creator Stephen Hillenburg responded with, "I don't want any of those sort of commercial weirdos on there. I don't like those commercial people. I like you guys, and Wilco and Ween."{{cite web|last= D'Angelo|first=Joe|url=https://www.mtv.com/news/x1s2j8/flaming-lips-wilco-commercial-weirdo-avril-lavigne-head-up-spongebob-lp|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230131110957/https://www.mtv.com/news/x1s2j8/flaming-lips-wilco-commercial-weirdo-avril-lavigne-head-up-spongebob-lp|url-status=dead|archive-date=January 31, 2023|title=Flaming Lips, Wilco, 'Commercial Weirdo' Avril Lavigne Head Up 'SpongeBob' LP|work=MTV News | publisher = Viacom |date=2004-09-30 |access-date=2010-06-18}} The Flaming Lips performed "SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy" on Late Night with Conan O'Brien the night before the film's release on November 19, 2004. During the performance, Wayne Coyne was encased in a giant bubble (similar to zorbs).[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWLeD0Xgs9Y Late Night 'The Flaming Lips (Live) Ad's 11/18/04] A music video for the song was filmed as well.{{cite web |url=http://www.spike.com/video/flaming-lips/2788810 |title=The Flaming Lips - Spongebob & Patrick Confront The Psychic Wall of Energy |publisher=Spike |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090929140607/http://www.spike.com/video/flaming-lips/2788810 |archive-date=September 29, 2009}}
The song "Goofy Goober Rock" is a parody of "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister,{{cite web|title= Twisted Sister's Dee Snider: Why I Allowed 'I Wanna Rock' to Be Re-Recorded with New Lyrics for 'The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie' |website= Blabbermouth.net |date= April 18, 2020 |access-date= March 27, 2021 |url=https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/twisted-sisters-dee-snider-why-i-allowed-i-wanna-rock-to-be-re-recorded-with-new-lyrics-for-the-spongebob-squarepants-movie/}} and Motörhead's "You Better Swim" is a rewritten version of "You Better Run" from their 1992 album March ör Die.
