Background
Local Natives worked on the album while they were enduring a "time of metamorphosis" as individuals.{{Cite press release |title=Local Natives Announce Fifth Studio Album Time Will Wait for No One Out July 7 via Loma Vista Recordings |publisher=Concord Music Group |url=https://concord.com/news/local-natives-announce-fifth-studio-album-time-will-wait-for-no-one-out-july-7-via-loma-vista-recordings/ |access-date=June 26, 2023}} On August 14, 2021, as they were halfway through creating their fifth album, the band performed at Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Their first live performance in almost two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the band called it "one of the most emotional concerts of our lives". It occurred as members were confronting parenthood, isolation, loss, and identity crisis. After the performance, the band felt unsure of their future and were "on the verge of a collapse".{{cite web|url=https://music.mxdwn.com/2021/05/17/los-angeles/local-natives-bring-music-back-to-the-greek-theatre-8-14-21/|title=Local Natives Bring Music Back to The Greek Theatre 8/14/21|last=Tel-Oren|first=Ilana|date=May 17, 2021|website=music.mxdwn.com|access-date=July 25, 2023}}{{cite magazine|last=Murray|first=Robin|date=May 10, 2023|title=Local Natives Detail New LP 'Time Will Wait For No One'|url=https://www.clashmusic.com/news/local-natives-detail-new-lp-time-will-wait-for-no-one/|magazine=Clash|access-date=July 25, 2023}} Experiencing their longest separation since they formed, the members were forced to redefine how to work together again. They worked toward developing deeper trust and honesty. As a result, the band found themselves in a prolific period where they wrote more music than they ever have before.{{cite magazine|last=Wollen|first=Miranda|date=July 6, 2023|title=Local Natives, Back From the Brink|url=https://www.pastemagazine.com/music/local-natives/time-will-wait-for-no-one-interview|magazine=Paste|access-date=July 25, 2023}} The album was recorded with producers John Congleton, Michael Harris and Danny Reisch.{{cite magazine|last=Redfern|first=Mark|date=July 7, 2023|title=Local Natives – Stream the New Album "Time Will Wait For No One"|url=https://www.undertheradarmag.com/news/local_natives_stream_the_new_album_time_will_wait_for_no_one|magazine=Under the Radar|access-date=July 25, 2023}}
