File:Morphology and geographic distribution of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau fish Triplophysa bleekeri.jpg

Triplophysa bleekeri is a species of stone loach in the genus Triplophysa. It is endemic to China. It grows to {{convert|8.2|cm|abbr=on}} TL.{{FishBase |genus=Triplophysa |species=bleekeri |month=November |year=2014}} Having a wide distribution across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, it lives in fast-flowing rivers from 200 to 3,000m in altitude.{{Cite journal|last=Wang|first=ZJ|date=2013|title=The reproductive traits of Triplophysa bleekeri in the Daning River.|journal=Freshwater Fisheries|volume=43|issue=5|pages=8–12}} Being an unusual species inhabiting high-altitude regions, it is an excellent model to investigate the genetic mechanisms of adaptation to the local environment. With this in mind a chromosomal-scale genome assembly was sequenced and assembled with a genome size of ~628 Mb. This data finding that the Triplophysa genus likely diverged when the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau elevated by >4,000 m roughly 40 million years ago.{{Cite journal|last1=Yuan|first1=Dengyue|last2=Chen|first2=Xuehui|last3=Gu|first3=Haoran|last4=Zou|first4=Ming|last5=Zou|first5=Yu|last6=Fang|first6=Jian|last7=Tao|first7=Wenjing|last8=Dai|first8=Xiangyan|last9=Xiao|first9=Shijun|last10=Wang|first10=Zhijian|date=2020-11-10|title=Chromosomal genome of Triplophysa bleekeri provides insights into its evolution and environmental adaptation|url= |journal=GigaScience|language=en|volume=9|issue=11|doi=10.1093/gigascience/giaa132|pmc=7684707|pmid=33231676}}

Etymology

Although the fish's patronym is not identified but it is clearly in honor of Pieter Bleeker (1819-1878), a Dutch medical doctor and ichthyologist.{{cite web | url = http://www.etyfish.org/cypriniformes5/ | title = Order CYPRINIFORMES: Family NEMACHEILIDAE (r-y) | access-date= 14 April 2022 | author1 = Christopher Scharpf | author2 = Kenneth J.
